iOS 17: Calls, Messages, Standby and AirDrop
The latest iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 17, will be packed with an array of innovative features.
Some of the standout updates announced for iOS 17 is the Live voicemail feature. This will allow iPhone users to get a real-time transcription of a voicemail to provide the option of knowing the urgency of phone calls. Alongside updates within calls, Apple has opened an option of creating contact posters. Contact posters allow iPhone users to customise their visual identity when calling other iPhone users. This will come with extensive vibrant colours and fonts to match the users personality using photos, Memoji’s and more. With iOS 17, users will be able to leave FaceTime voicemails which allows a new virtual messaging feature.
Messages have received a ton of new updates such as check-in which allows you to notify your family and friends once you are home safely. If you're ever delayed, check-in sends an alert to friends within the thread.
Standby is a new display mode for iPhones. StandBy will provide a view for displaying time, widgets, and other information when iPhones are charging horizontally. Nomad have created the perfect wireless chargers compatible with Apple’s new horizontal display to complement any set-up.
AirDrop is a favourite feature for Apple users and the new updates are set to maintain this. With the new feature NameDrop, two people only need to bring each of their iPhones close together and one can share a file or photos with the other person automatically. NameDrop supports the sharing of contact information from the contact cards shown in the new calls feature and will also work between an iPhone and an Apple Watch as long as they are running up-to-date software. Other AirDrop features include advancements sending photos via AirDrop outside of range and sending information so long as devices are next to each other.
Apple Watch: watchOS
Many of the new features to be seen in the Apple Watch relate to major updates to watchOS. Apple has stated that they will be introducing new widget views, redesigned apps, improvements to workouts, mood tracking, and more.
