At MegaMac we are aware that a business considers more than just profits — it considers its impact on society and subsequently, the environment. Our ethos has always been to ensure that customers have products that allow them to maximise the longevity of their devices and to improve the performance of those products; the main reason why MegaMac was started. A good relationship with technology comes from enhancing and adding value to products, rather than in throwing them away. It has become increasingly evident that our planet is at its brink but we at MegaMac believe that small changes in business operations can help greatly alleviate the environmental impact that we have on our planet.
We always encourage our customers to replace rather than dispose. Battery replacements can drastically help decrease the technological waste of laptops and other computer devices. An estimated 50 million tons of electronic waste are discarded each year and if laptops are not recycled or reused, the lead, mercury and other toxic components can contaminate the groundwater near landfills, entering the environment. Leaving laptops or other electronic devices plugged can cause long-term battery issues where we have also provided some tips on improving the longevity of your iPhone battery which can also be applied to your computer devices.
Our Brands
Brands such as Nomad and OWC who we collaborate with daily reinforce sustainability with regards to their product packaging.
Since 2020, Nomad has partnered with Climate Neutral to offset 100% of their carbon emissions. Steps taken to achieve this have been reflected by Nomad through modifications of their packaging with the goal of reducing and removing plastic and from their packaging materials and shipping supplies. These contemporary eco-friendly designs have helped to facilitate the recycling culture of customers and their distributors to decrease their carbon emission in the future.
Our best selling supplier of docks have continued to work tirelessly to build sustainable practices into all levels of their operations. OWC believes that “sustainability is synonymous with success.”
Since 2003 OWC has worked to extend this approach to its business operations, with the result that the company currently recycles 94 percent of its solid waste materials, received LEED® Platinum Certification by the Green Building Certification Institute in 2010, and in 2015 we reached their goal of generating more power than during consumption using wind and solar power.
Our Office
Here at MegaMac, we continue to make a conscious effort on our carbon impact not just regarding business operations, but also the impact of our office spaces. We value the commitment that our office spaces deliver to ensure that we achieve net zero carbon by 2030. Recycling everything from food to batteries has allowed our offices to achieve an average of 60% recycling rate across all the buildings. A percentage will continuously improve by conducting regular waste audits and setting targets for the future. Through the certification with Planet Mark, areas of endangered rainforest are protected thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. We have a plan to change things, starting within our business so we can work together towards a better future.
We make every effort to assure that our orders and returns use plastic free packaging to decrease landfill waste and even transportation emissions for plastic. By supporting this way of sustainability, these small changes help to encourage customers to also implement this in their day-to-day activities, thereby contributing to the large effect on us doing our part to maintain our planet currently and for future generations.
